Empey, Emma Adams, a member of the General Board of Relief Society since May 25, 1911, was born Aug. 5, 1860, at Tipton, Staffordshire, England, a daughter of John Adams and Sarah Tranter. She came to Utah in September, 1881, as a non-member of the Church. She went back to England on a visit, but returned to Utah in June, 1887, to make her permanent home there. She was baptized Sept. 27, 1890, by Bishop Nelson A. Empey, and having received a good education in England was soon actively engaged in Church work. On June 24, 1891, she was married to Bishop Empey. From 1911 to 1921 she served as general treasurer of the Relief Society, as manager of the Burial Clothes Department for a time, and from 1900 to 1920 as superintendent of the Relief Society nurses.
