Extract from the Manuscript History of the British Mission
The town of Alltwen is located six miles NE of Swansea, Wales.
27 May 1851, Tuesday. According to the statistical report of the West Glamorganshire Conference of this date, the Alltwen Branch contained 30 members, including 4 elders, 1 priest, 4 teachers, and 2 deacons. 5 had been baptized. James Davies was branch president.
2 Dec 1851, Tuesday. Statistical report of W. Glamorganshire Conference showed Alltwen Branch had 27 members, incliding 3 elders, 5 priests, 3 teachers, and 2 deacons. James Davies was president and Wm. Williams secretary.
18 Apr 1852, Sunday. Stats. report of W.Gl. Conf. showed Alltwen Branch contained 31 members, including 3 elders, 5 priests, 3 teachers, and 2 deacons. 5 had been baptized. James Davies was still branch president and Wm. Williams secretary.
The record of members of the Alltwen Branch for the preiod 1849-1858 showed that sixty were registered for baptism.
10 Jun 1860, Sunday. District council meeting at Cyfyng, the Alltwen Branch was represented by John H. Davies. All were in good spirits and determined to fulfil any counsel received.
28 Jul 1865, Friday, Elder Evan A. Richards wrote from Wales as follows: “Under the direction of Pres. Wm. D. Williams we have been preaching in the open air to very large and attentive congregations. Brother Dell and I called the brethren and sisters of four branches together last Sunday in order to hold a Camp Meeting. We met at Alltwen in the morning and preached at 11 a.m. to a very attentive audience. We held a Saints’ meeting at 2 pm.
Sep. 29, 1872, Sunday. At a council meeting held at Merthyr Tydvil, the Alltwen Branch was reported in good standing, with few exceptions.
